๐ก Good to know
- SF is on-leash by default. Dogs run free only inside the marked off-leash Dog Play Areas (DPAs) and designated areas โ look for the signs; the rest of each park is leash-on.
- Federal parks have their own rules. Fort Funston and Crissy Field are GGNRA land โ off-leash is allowed in posted zones only, and rules can change. Always check the signage at the trailhead.
- Protect the wildlife. Parts of Ocean Beach and Crissy Field close seasonally for the snowy plover and other shorebirds โ respect roped-off areas.
- Dress for the microclimate. The west side (Funston, Sunset) is windy, foggy and cold; the Mission and Bernal are sunnier. Bring water โ fountains arenโt everywhere.
- Mind the cliffs & traffic. At Fort Funston and the hilltop parks, keep a reliable recall โ edges and roads are close.
- Clean up & be courteous. Carry bags, scoop every time, and pull your dog out if play gets too rough.
