๐ก Good to know
- Off-leash isnโt everywhere. Rules vary by beach โ and often by section of the same beach. Check the posted signs at the trailhead before you unclip.
- National-park beaches have federal rules. Fort Funston, Crissy Field, Baker, Ocean & Rodeo are GGNRA land โ off-leash is allowed only in designated zones, and rules can change.
- Wildlife closures. Stretches of Ocean Beach and Crissy Field close seasonally for the snowy plover; give harbor seals and shorebirds a wide berth.
- Respect the surf. Ocean Beach has dangerous rip currents and sneaker waves โ keep dogs well back from the water. Calmer bayside spots (Crissy, Point Isabel) are safer for swimmers.
- No salt water. Drinking it makes dogs sick โ bring fresh water, and rinse sand & salt from paws and coat afterward.
- Check access & fees. Dillon Beach is privately run with a day-use fee; some lots fill early on warm weekends.
- Pack it out. Carry bags, scoop every time, and leash up around crowds, horses, or wildlife.
