🎾 What dog daycare is

With daycare, you drop your dog off in the morning — at a daycare facility or a host’s home — and pick it up in the evening. The day usually mixes group play, rest periods, feeding and potty breaks, supervised by staff. It’s daytime-only: no overnight stay.

🆚 Daycare vs. a dedicated walk

The big difference is group setting vs. one-on-one. Daycare puts your dog in a busy room of other dogs for the day. A dedicated midday walk keeps your dog in its own home and routine, with individual attention and a proper outing.

• Daycare can suit very social, high-energy dogs who genuinely love group play.
• A dedicated walk is gentler for most dogs — especially puppies, seniors, anxious dogs, or dogs that find groups overwhelming.
• No cross-exposure to lots of other dogs (kennel cough, parasites) with one-on-one care.
• Away longer than a day? That’s a job for in-home sitting.

• Visit first and check it’s clean, secure and not overcrowded, with separate areas for small and large dogs.
• Ask about staff-to-dog ratios and how play groups are matched by size and temperament.
• Confirm vaccination requirements (rabies, DHPP, Bordetella) — for every dog there.
• Check rest policy — good daycares enforce quiet time; all-day play exhausts most dogs.
• Do a trial half-day and see how your dog comes home: happily tired is good, stressed or shut down is not.
• Share routine, meds and emergency contacts — and your vet’s details.
